Providence Stadium in Guyana is going to host the second semi-final of the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. The semi-final 2 is scheduled to be played between the powerhouses India and England on 27 June from 8:00 PM IST. Providence Stadium has hosted the group stage matches of the T20 World Cup 2024, but surprisingly, it did not host any Super 8 matches.
ICC has been criticised for selecting Providence Stadium in Guyana as the venue for the second semi-final because in the month of June, Guyana receives heavy rainfall, and the game between India and England could be abandoned. If the high-profile clash ends up being abandoned, then India will directly qualify for the finals due to a better run rate in the Super 8 of the tournament.
No one wants to see such a disappointing scenario. Even the Indian fans want their team to beat England fair and square in a completed T20 game. Providence Stadium has produced interesting matches in the past, and if the Rain Gods show mercy on 27 June, then we could witness a classic between India and England.
