India defeated South Africa by a mere 7 runs to win the T20 World Cup trophy for the second time. The 17-year wait for the T20 World Cup trophy finally came to an end. Legends Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli announced their retirement from T20Is after winning the tournament. Rahul Dravid has also bid adieu to the Indian Cricket Team as coach after the World Cup.

The final took many turns before India registered the victory. Virat Kohli played a splendid knock of 76, and Axar Patel and Shivam Dube played crucial roles. In bowling, the trip of pacers- Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh and Hardik Pandya guided India to victory when only 30 odd runs were required in 5 overs for South Africa to win. In 2022, Sam Curran of England took 3 wickets for 12 runs against Pakistan in Melbourne. Most recently, in 2024, Hardik Pandya bowled impressively against South Africa in T20 World Cup 2024 final, taking 3 wickets for 20 runs against South Africa in Bridgetown.
