The T20 World Cup is probably the second most important cricket tournament in the world after the ODI World Cup. Currently, England is the defending champion after winning the trophy in 2022. Unfortunately, strong teams like New Zealand and South Africa are yet to become the T20 World Cup winners. On the other hand, West Indies and England have won the T20 World Cup twice. Pakistan, Sri Lanka and England have reached the T20 World Cup finals thrice. They are tied for the most appearances in the finals.

2007 (South Africa)

India won the first T20 World Cup, beating Pakistan in a thrilling final at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg. India scored 157 runs, and Pakistan almost caught up but fell short by 5 runs.

2009 (England)

Pakistan was crowned as one of the T20 World Cup winners by defeating Sri Lanka at Lord’s in London. Sri Lanka scored 138 runs, but Pakistan chased it down with ease, finishing at 139 runs with 2 wickets down. Shahid Afridi’s all-round performance was a highlight of the match.

2010 (West Indies)

England came out victorious against Australia in the final held at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown. Australia scored 147 runs, but England chased the target successfully, scoring 148 runs for the loss of 3 wickets.

2012 (Sri Lanka)

The West Indies won their first T20 World Cup by beating Sri Lanka at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. West Indies scored 137 runs, and Sri Lanka was bowled out for 101 runs.

2014 (Bangladesh)

Sri Lanka became one of the T20 World Cup winners by defeating India at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka. India scored 130 runs, but Sri Lanka chased it down, scoring 134 runs with 4 wickets down.

2016 (India)

The West Indies became second time T20 World Cup winners by defeating England at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. England scored 155 runs, but West Indies chased it down with 161 runs, thanks to Carlos Brathwaite hitting four consecutive sixes in the final over.

2021 (UAE & Oman)

Australia won the T20 World Cup, beating New Zealand in the final held at the Dubai International Stadium. New Zealand scored 172 runs, but Australia chased the target successfully, scoring 173 runs for the loss of 2 wickets.

2022 (Australia)

England won the T20 World Cup by defeating Pakistan at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Pakistan scored 137 runs, and England chased it down, scoring 138 runs with 5 wickets down.

2024 (West Indies & USA)

The T20 World Cup for 2024 will be held in the West Indies and the USA. The winner, runner-up, and memorable moments are yet to be determined. The final match is set to take place at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados.
